About the Resource Center PDF Print E-mail

The Northern Moore Family Resource Center (NMFRC) was established in 1996 with a stated mission to encourage the development of strong families, healthy children, and caring communities by matching resources with needs in the northern Moore County area.  The State of North Carolina’s Division of Social Services offered counties all over North Carolina the opportunity to apply for funds to create Resource Centers in their communities.  In Moore County, a group was formed to do a needs assessment in various areas of Moore County, and once they accumulated information and data to assess the needs, it was determined that the northern part of Moore County should be their focus.  The group wrote a successful proposal, and for many years received family resource center funding.  Several years ago, the State changed its focus for Resource Center funding.  Resource Centers who wanted to continue receiving funds through the Division of Social Services were mandated to focus solely on prevention of child abuse by offering evidence-based parenting programs.

Because NMFRC wanted to offer a broad range of opportunities in the community, the Center no longer receives funds through the Division of Social Services.  NMFRC currently receives support from The United Way of Moore County, North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, Sandhills Community College, and the Sandhills Center for Mental Health.

Additionally, the Resource Center welcomes donations from individuals, churches, businesses, and any other entity interested in supporting our current programs.
